CONFERENCE WARMING

This year’s conference warming will take place on Wednesday, September 21st from 7 pm at T.R.U.D.E. in Hamburg-Barmbek. We are happy to announce that this evening’s food will be kindly sponsored, so we certainly look forward to seeing you all there! (Please note , however, that everyone will be responsible for paying for their own drinks.) A true Hamburg institution, the restaurant derives its name from the massive drill that single-handedly expanded the Elbtunnel, burrowing Tief Runter Unter Die Elbe, and which found its resting place just across from the old red-brick building that used to house the New-York-Hamburg Rubber-Goods Company. This building now beckons with food and drink a-plenty. To kick off the conference, we want to clink our glasses on T.R.U.D.E.’s open terrace and toast to inspiring talks and conversations.

CONFERENCE DINNER

The venue for the conference dinner, to take place on Friday, September 23rd from 7 pm, could not be more Hanseatic: we will dine aboard ship! Lying at anchor in the Port of Hamburg at Landungsbrücken, the Rickmer Rickmers is a nineteenth-century, three-masted barque whose green hull and towering masts have become as much a Hamburg icon as St. Michaelis or the ship’s notorious neighbour, the Elbphilharmonie. As she is now both a restaurant and a museum, the Rickmer Rickmers also invites you before or after dinner to descend onto her lower decks to explore the exhibitions about her journeys to Asia and her later life as a naval training vessel. To sign up for the conference dinner, please fill out the registration form available here and mark the appropriate box.

EXCURSION

Our excursion will take place on Saturday morning and early afternoon. And once again, we are serving up some rather Hanseatic fare. We will first have a guided tour, with an expert, through Hamburg’s downtown area, including the Hamburger Rathaus, the Speicherstadt, and, of course, the Elbphilharmonie, where we will be exposed to the history of Hamburg’s dynamic architectural development. From there we will take a boat trip through the city’s canals and down the Elbe while relaxing with snacks and drinks. To sign up for the excursion, please fill out the registration form available here and mark the appropriate box.
